Japan EarthquakeBy Stan The Devil

Northwestern Japan was struck by a strong earthquake that destroyed hundreds of homes, bridges and also causing a fire in one of the largest nuclear power plants. Hundreds were injured and at least seven were killed.

The earthquake hit right after 10 am local time. It lefts fissures 3 feet wide in the ground. It was centered off Niigata state. The quake was measures at 6.8 magnitudes.

Flame and smoke came out of the Kashiwazaki nuclear plant. The plant automatically shut down during the quake. There was no release of radioactivity or damage to the reactors.

Tsunami warnings were also issued along the coast of Niigata but were later lifted. Through out the day smaller aftershocks shook the area, even one with 5.8 magnitude. Luckily the quake hit on a holiday and most people were home.

Almost 300 homes were destroyed and around 2000 people were evacuated. A ceiling collapsed in a gym filled with about 200 people, who had gathered there for a badminton tournament, only one person was hurt.

Japan is one of the worlds most earthquake prone countries. The last big quake in Tokyo killed around 142,000 people in 1923.

Earthquake In Japan

My thoughts:
I have been in a few earthquakes before but nothing big, and let me tell you it is very scary when everything just starts shaking, they are a little fun when they are small but still scary.
