Man tries to jump in popemobileBy Stan The Devil

For some strange reason a man tried to jump into the Pope Mobile. He tried jumping into the back of the open air vehicle carrying Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican City on Wednesday. The man was soon wrestled to the ground.

The man was wearing a red t-shirt, dark shorts and a baseball cap. There was a crowd of people waving flags and holding banners for the pope on the side of the street where the pope mobile was passing by. That is where the man was standing at them jumped over the barricade and touched the back of the vehicle right before six men wrestled him down.

Pope Benedict continued waving at it seemed like he didn’t even noticed what was going on in the back of his vehicle. The Pope gives an address or general audience to crowds who gather in St. Peter’s Square. Thousands of people show up and sometimes hundreds of thousands and even though they are screened with metal detectors, screening can be difficult because of the amount of people showing up.

The man is being held for questioning by Vatican police and will be handed over to Italian police for more questioning. It is still unclear what charges he might face if any.

Although this incident was over quickly it recalled the attempt against Pope John Paul in 1981 that also occurred in St. Peter’s Square.

My thoughts

Maybe he just wanted to get a picture with the Pope!
