European astronomers have found an Earth-like planet outside the solar system. After studying the planet the astronomers said that the sun would not burn so brightly and it would faintly glow like a charcoal ember. Since the planet moves so fast around its sun-like star you could have a birthday party every 13 days.

The temperature would be a lot like Earth’s temperature, not too hot or cold. This is the main reason why astronomers believe that this planet could house life outside the solar system. The size of this planet is very close to the size of earth. These two things make this planet the first habitable planet besides Earth or Mars.

The European astronomers who discovered the planet are now saying that this discovery puts them closer to the answer of the question Are we alone? Astronomer Michel Mayor is one of the eleven scientists that found the planet and he said “It’s a significant step on the way to finding possible life in the universe”; “It’s a nice discovery. We still have a lot of questions.”

Scientists and Astronomers still have a lot of research to do, it is still unknown if the planet could be deemed inhospitable to life. When talking about galaxies, this one is a neighbor, it is only 120 trillion miles away and the red star that this planet circles is one of the closest to Earth.

The discovery was made in La Silla, Chile by the European Southern Observatory’s telescope, which has a special instrument that splits light to find wobbles in different wavelengths. These wobbles reveal the existence of other worlds.

The name of this new planet is Gliese 581 c and it is heavier than Earth, and the gravity there would be 1.6 times as strong as Earth’s. They are still not certain if Gliese 581 c is rocky like Earth or if it’s a frozen ice ball with liquid water on its surface. If this planet has an atmosphere and what is in that atmosphere is still a mystery. If the atmosphere is too thick, it could make the surface too hot. Scientists believe that the average temperature should be between 32 and 104 degrees.

Many other planets have been found before but they are too hot, too cold or too big and gaseous like Jupiter. This new planet Gliese 581 c seems just right. NASA astrobiology expert Chris McKay said “It doesn’t mane there is life, but it means it’s an Earth like planet in terms of potential habitability.”

My thoughts

These astronomers are so smart. I bet they need people to send to the new planet and see how it really is. I am willing to send a couple of my minions out there to check everything out. They are not as smart as the astronomers but they can be your testers. We do need another planet so half of the people here on Earth can move to the new planet because it is very very crowded here.
