The Virginia Tech shooting that happened on April 16th 2007 was the deadliest shooting rampage on modern U.S. history. At 7:15am the Virginia Tech Police Department received a 911 call to respond to a dorm room at West Ambler Johnston Residence Hall. A few minutes later Virginia Tech Police and Rescue Squad respond to find two gunshot victims, a male and a female in the dorm room. The hall was secured and students in te hall we notified and asked to stay in their rooms. When investigations started, it was believed that the deaths were isolated and domestic in nature.
At 7:30am investigators were following up on leads concerning a person of interest in the double homicide. At 8:25am Virginia Tech leaders began assessing the developing the situation and determining a means of notifying students of the homicide. At 9:00am the leadership team was informed of the latest developments on the investigations. At 9:26am Virginia Tech Students and Staff were notified by email of the homicide, and were asked to report any suspicious activity. At 9:45am The Virginia Tech Police Department received a 911 call of a shooting at Norris Hall, which contains faculty offices, classrooms and laboratories. When polices arrived they found the front doors barricaded. Minutes later the officers breached the door which had a chain on the inside.
When the officers were inside they heard gunshots. They followed the gunshots to the second floor. When officers reached the second floor the gunshots stopped. Officers discovered the gunman who had killed himself. At 9:55am Virginia Tech notified the campus community of the second murder scene.
There were a total of 33 deaths in the shooting including the gunman. University officials said they are still trying to determine if the gunman was responsible for both, the dorm shooting and the shooting at Norris Hall.
The gunman was identified as Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old South Korean who was a resident alien. Cho lived at the university’s Harper Hall. He was an English major. Cho was a loner and police are having trouble finding information about him. Police hasn’t released the list of the 32 people killed in the shooting.
"There wasn’t a shooting victim that didn’t have less than three bullet wounds in them," said Dr. Joseph Cacioppo of Montgomery Regional Hospital. There were two guns recovered a 9-milimeter handgun and 22-caliber handgun. University officials are still trying to determine if Cho was responsible for the shooting at the dorm that left two dead. Ballistic tests show that one of the two guns recovered at the Norris Hall was used at Norris and at the dorm.
Classes have been canceled for the remainder of the week to allow students the time they need to grieve and seek assistance as needed. The Norris Hall will remain close for the remainder of the semester.
Virginia Tech Shooting
My thoughts
Of course everybody is thinking it was the devil’s act. But it wasn’t me. I was sleeping at the time of the shooting. I would never do anything like that. I don’t kill people. I just wait for the killer in Hell. This Cho Chin Chu guy was crazy, why would he do something like this? Where are his parents? Investigators should try to talk to them to get more information on this wacko. Somebody had to know him. They need to find these people and try to figure out why he did it.
