In January 2007 Fantasy writer David Eddings, 75, was flushing the gas tank of his Excalibur sports car with water when he noticed a some liquid underneath. So he lit a piece of paper and threw it under the car to see if it was still flammable. Well, it was and a large orange fireball ripped through his garage and into his office which was located next door.
His 95-year-old mother-in-law came outside to see the Juniper trees lining the driveway on fire as well.
Since his car was no longer in use, Eddings decided that he would empty the gas tank to prevent a future fire, but instead he caused a fire.
"One word comes to mind," said the novelist as he stood outside his home in a pajamas and slippers. "Dumb."
David Eddings is the author of 27 novels and most of his original manuscripts were in the basement of the office building. Eddings said his biggest worry was his fax machine, which he uses to communicate with his wife’s doctor. His wife, Leigh, is the co-author of most of his writings and is unable to speak as a result of a series of strokes.
The excalibur sports car, which he bought in the 1970’s, was a little painful as well, he said.
"It made for a real fancy vehicle, right up until it burned."
My Thoughts
Oh I enjoy hearing about the amateurs playing with fire. Come on, I do not even play with fire, it can get you burned! Not to mention, he really messed up a nice looking vintage car. If I were him, I would of had it towed off to mechanic to have them prep it for long time storage, but NO, he wanted to see if a puddle on the ground was gas or water. I think this guy was high on the fumes, especially if there was enough gas underneath the car to blow him sky high!
I found some of there books, check them out!
